Brahms v. Radiohead

This cutting-edge program that fused together Brahms’ First Symphony with the music of Radiohead was just begging for an original design. To attract younger audiences, we wanted to defy expectations and make it eye-catching, fun, and memorable. The color palette was bold and minimalistic; hot pink would pop and distinguish the campaign from others in the market. The imagery was quite literal on purpose—young Brahms juxtaposed with a radio/tape deck from another century.

It was a big hit! The Toledo Symphony surpassed its revenue goal and sold out the 900-seat Valentine Theatre at premium pricing within a month of launch. The Brahms v. Radiohead print ad, designed by Melissa Wehrman Designs, received a Bronze ADDY Award from the American Advertising Federation in 2021.
